block heater time

It is now getting below freezing here, so the block heater is being used. I have a few questions about it though....

1. How long does it take for it to warm up fully?
2. This is 1000watts, right? I am charged $.10 a killowatt, which means 12 hours is $1.20 if I can add.

I am tring to decide if I should buy a timer. Looked today and saw some for like 15.

I think most people that use a timer give it 3-4 hours before time to start

30 minutes to 1 hour works for me but your mileage may vary. It is 1k watts after all and the longer the better but unless you're in the teens, I stay with what I have. The truck is supposed to start on it's own down to frezing and below and it does. However, without the heater, things are a lot tougher on the parts and it takes longer to warm up.
