While replacing the clip for my vacuum advance arm inside the Duraspark dizzy of my 400, I moved a pickup wire out of the way by routing it on one of the armature vanes. Of course being the carefree guy that I am, I neglected to place the wire back in it's natural position before installing the cap again. As you can imagine, once I tried to turn it over, I severed this wire and the result was no spark. I made a feebal attempt at repairing it, and the truck will run, but as soon as it gets under load, forget it.
So where can I get a new one of these things? I called two auto parts stores, I called it a "pickup" and they did not know what I was talking about. I am not even sure that is what it is supposed to be called. I don't want to get a used one from a boneyard as this is a nicely worked and re-curved dizzy that I just can't see putting old parts into.
Call another parts store... Sounds like the ones you called were just dumb. The magnetic pickup assy is a common replacement part.
Good help is hard to find. One call to the local non-chained store and sure enough, it is even in stock @$35.99 (borg warner) they had a niehoff for like $15, but something just didn't seem right about that. Suppose I will be re-timing after I install it.
i wouldn't have hesitated to put the http://www.niehoff.com/ part in for less than 1/2 price. they've been around forever, at least since i was a kid, and have always been good quality for me.

I totally understand that and usually agree with it. It was just in this case, it was in a place I didn't feel like going again, so when I saw the price difference, I just took the middle of the road part. I use niehoff stuff all the time, like rotors and caps and have NEVER had a problem with them. Who knows, maybe the BW part will hose on me and I will be going back anyways. My lazy **** has yet to install it.
