I have an '06 F150, 5.4L now has 25,000 miles - NOT ONE COMPLAINT
However, recently took a little trip (1200 miles in 2 days)
I noticed my oil was down a little bit - strange - but I just added another quart and have been checking it everyday for the last week. It is now down to the bottom of the hash marks on the stick again.
First 3 oil changes I used Motorcraft oil then on the 20K mark I put in Mobile1
I cant imagine why my truck would be using oil - NO leaks
Any Ideas?
When I purchased my 98 F150w/ 12,000 miles on it I switched immediatley to Mobil 1. I noticed the same thing that you did. My truck would either burn or consume usually two quarts between changes. On several diffrent visits I told the dealership to check for oil leaks and they found nothing. I talked to a buddy of mine where i worked and he said that was usual with mobil 1. I ended up calling the tech line thats listed on the back of the bottle and they told me the same thing. They said that since it synthetic it will be absorbed by all the engine seals and also you will loose some of it due to it "coating" the cylinders and oil passages. I do not know if they fed my alot of bull$&!^ but sure enough after the third change I never lost any oil whatsoever. Hope this helps. I have a new truck and have not made the switch yet however. I was very happy with mobil 1 but I dont know if I will use it in my new 05 Fx4 truck.
