99 explorer starting problem
I have been reading a ton on this problem but none have exactly fit what I am experiencing. This usually occurs when the temperature is around 40 degrees. Once in a while the truck will crank but not fire. If you push down the accelerator it will typically start. My wife said that last week the idle went way up on start up for no reason and after a short time it leveled off. <O

I have a remote start kit on this explorer and some times when we us it the engine will start but the idle drops off and the engine dies. <O

I'm leaning towards an IAC, but this is very sporadic and I also have read it could be a Crankshaft position sensor. <O

Has anyone out their experienced this type of problem?<O

The problem happened again last night when my wife left work. Engine started revved up and died. She had to push on the accelerator to get it started after which it ran fine.<O:p</O:p
Last night I took a shot in the dark and replaced the IAC and this morning the truck started fine. I even started it with the remote and the engine did not drop off at all after start up. <O:p</O:p
The idle seemed a bit higher than before (1000 rpm) until it started to warm up then it dropped down to about 600-700 rpm. <O:p</O:p
With regard to the intake gaskets - <O:p</O:p
We had issues with the intake manifold back in 02. The check engine light came on and we took it to a garage. They replaced the rings and a couple months later the light came on again. They determined we had a warped manifold and replaced that. In light of your responses I have called the shop and asked them to find out if the new updated rings were available in 02 in which case the upgraded ones would have been installed.<O:p</O:p
Thanks again - Jim<O:p</O:p
