steering stabilizer

I see alot of lifted trucks with either single or dual steering stabilizers. What exactly does having this do? And is it something simple to install by yourself?

what kind of truck do you have? be specific.
the steering stab. reduces road vibrations and vibrations from larger tires.

a person with moderate skills can install a steering stab. kit. some drilling will be required on some trucks. i am sure you could tackle this project.

yeah sorry about not including my truck info. I have a 2004 F250 SD 6.0 PSD CC SB with a 4" Pro Comp lift and 35x12.50R16 mud terrain tires. There is a little bit of play in the steering but nothing major. If a stabilizer would help thought then I would definetly consider installing one.

I didn't figure it to be anything too major. I just installed a 4" turbo back exhaust on it myself with no problems so I do have some moderate skills and a decsent understanding of things. And I can read so if it has instruction then I won't have any worries.

Any recommendation on brands? I know there are a slew of different manufacturerers out there who make lift kit, do most of them also do stabilizers I would assume since it's along the same lines?

I am sure procomp sells a kit for your truck. Did you get your parts (lift)from 4wheel parts?
They should have suggested a kit in the first place.
Go and talk to other fourwheel drive shops to get more info. on any mods you have in mind. Some shops are out there to make money-read as sales volume- so look for a shop that really knows about 4x mods, especially on new trucks like yours. Talk to people who modified trucks like yours and LOOK at their rides carefully.
Most of all keep posting here on FTE.

Thanks for the help. Yeah I have a good idea of where to look for the parts I would need. I have 4wheelparts on my favorites list so thats one of the first places I'll look. I'd rather buy from someone who knows what they're doing and pay a little more than from some yahoo just looking for profit numbers with no quality support. I'm also going to call Pro Comp tech hotline and talk with them also before I commit to buying anything. I actually bought my lift through the dealer and they installed it and everything, all part of the deal for me to buy the truck(easier than trying to do it myself).

Have fun with your build and have fun with your truck. Just make sure you USE that PSD the way it was intended- drive the wheels off that thing

I put a steering stabilizer on my 85 and it was a noticeable difference. Helped stop the truck from wandering all over the road and everything. It is nice!
