Has anyone replaced the automatic hubs with manual ones? I have a 1993 f 150 with push button 4 wheel drive. One of my hubs are bad it will not disengage. I was told I could just swap them out with manual ones. Has anyone ever done this?
No, pick up the new hubs and follow the instructions, job should take an hour at the max. Unless you want to do extra cleaning and maintenence.
There are six hex screws on the hub. Just remove them to take off the old hubs.
You will need a pick set to remove the retaining ring inside the flange. You can get the pick set at any auto store (o-ring remover), the set will have many different picks and you will use a combination of a few to get the ring out.
If ring does not lock back in, you must push the affected axle in towards the differntial housing (this situation may or may not occur) if it does post it and we can walk you through it.
You will also need a conversion kit. It is a new set of spindle locknuts. Add to that the correct spindle nut sockets. You may be able to rent these from local auto parts.
Good luck. Let us know if you need anything else.
