choke problem

choke problem
my 84 300 6 has the one barrel carb n it. on cold mornings when i go out to start it i pump the gas twice to set the choke i start it i fires up fine it spits and spudders then idles up to 1500 then you can hear the cohke kick down a step and i think it kicks down one more then it will idle up to 2000 or higher once it starts to get warmer so i usually just get in hit the gas to shut the choke off and just sit in there and hold it at about 1500. how do i fix this. thanks
