Just drove my brand new x 850 miles home. The dealer agreed to change the oil before I picked up the vehicle. I picked it up late in the day and drove it all the way home. I just checked the oil and it was 2qts low. It is an 05 V10 with 18,000 miles. Trusting the dealer, I did not check the oil level before I left. My guess is that he didn't change it all. Now, I am worried that the engine is potentially damaged. I don't hear any start up noises or knocking. What do you all think? I don't really want to tell the dealer and have this be part of the service record.
Two quarts low shouldn't cause terminal problems, but I would definitely let the selling dealer know about the problem and watch it closely..I don't know what the capacity of the V10 is,but mebbee you should make sure it's on the record in case there is a related problem later..I had the opposite happen on my '84 Trans-am once where they forgot to drain it and then refilled it so that it was at least 4 qts over-full.Caught it after I had driven it 60 miles and before I left on a trip from Washington to Iowa.. Took it into the dealer and they drained it,checked the engine and refilled it and I made sure that it was entered into the record.. A year later,I had engine problems that were caused by the overfill and there was no problem getting it repaired on their dollar...
JUST GO GET THE OIL CHANGED AGAIN AND QUIT SWEATING THE SMALL STUFF ! The capacity on the V-10 is 6 qts. No knocks or pings.......its fine. Top it off and go get a fresh change.
