Can't remember where I saw it, but there was a kit available to enable you to switch on your hi and low beams at the same time. I was driving home a couple nights ago and flipped my hi's back to low, and it didn't quite make it. My X has a little niche in between hi and low that will keep both beems on. WOW, what a difference that makes. I've done it many times now, and for up to 10 minutes with no problems. Anyone else find this, has there been any problems? It it very sweet, especially on moonless nights. Curious what it would be like in snow/fog. Probably still to much reflection from the hi's against the snow/fog.
Are you talking about a product such as the brite box??? I have looked into it a few times, however, I am still on the fence on it. I believe the bulbs in the excursion are dual filament, meaning that there are two filaments in one bulb. Having both highs and lows on at the same time creates more heat than just highs alone shortening the lifespan of the bulb. Also, the lens of the headlight assembly wasn't designed for the extra heat of highs and lows on simultaneously so if there isn't airflow across the lense such as when driving, lens distortion is a risk. Another factor to look at is that the FMVSS specifies a certain amount of light output from low beams, and high beams, and with both on it would exceed the amount of 'specified' light output...then again, HID kits that replace the bulbs alone are illegal due to not having self-leveling mechanisms in them, but people still drive around with them with nary an issue...:/
Thanks for the feedback, I didn't have a chance to check the headlight assembly out. I figured that there had to be some increased heat, glad to hear that my fears were correct, that this can't be good on extended bulb life. Although, it sure is shweeet on my long dirt road, at 65 mph, to have some extra light for that 10 minutes, of course with no oncoming traffic. Better to see the wildlife with, ya know..........
