Need To Know Best Filter Replacement To Use.
Are you still running the stock air box? If so I don't really think that just installing a K&N filter will work. The stock air box is poorly designed and leaks which in turn allows debris to flow into the turbo. If it were my truck and I was going to change out the turbo then I would change out the air box too at the same time.

Everything I've read on the diesel forums, regarding the K&N filter, is not to use it because it allows more dust and dirt to pass through than all the other filters out there.
The Pro Guard 7 filter AFE uses supposedly has superior filtration characteristics, second only to the OEM filter by one half of 1%.

As far as Air intake systems are concerned, the Ford Severe Duty AIS, the 46637 intake , and the AFE with the pro-guard 7 filter are excellent for these engines. An oil analysis by a place like www.blackstone-labs.com for $20 will show how well your air filtration/induction system is doing along with giving you a good picture of how your engine looks on the inside.
The blow by you mentioned sound like the oil build up from the crankcase vent (if I understand you correctly). The crank case is vented into the air intake just before the turbo. Many folks do a CCV mod to reroute the crank case gasses and get rid of the oily mess it can create.
