Have read the threads, still confused

89 F250, 460, 7.5L, long bed, auto (c6) trans, truck 100% stock (for now).
Truck is used for light farm work, occaisional hauling, trips to work.

I've read through the threads, but I'm still confused.

75% of the exhaust needs replacing (long story) so I'm replacing 100% of it.

Easy questions here:
Which perf header to go with? (including good thick gaskets)
Which per Cat to go with?
Which perf cat-back system?

I'm not concerned about sound (just not obnoxious, I need to enter a Military base every morning.)

I realize this isn't a racing truck, but I still want 'good' and reliable system.

There is probably a lot of opinions, but I'll sort them all out.

long tubes headers w/3" collectors, 3" pipe, highflow cat (dont know what kind never use em), an X or H pipe and some turbo style mufflers...dynomax, maremont, walker and cherry bomb are some examples of manufacturers.
Thats what I would do, if I wanted to keep it on the mellow side while maintaining good flow.
Im sure someone will tell you to get some flowmasters tho lol.

okay, showing my ignorance here: what the heck are X and H pipes?

I'm guessing a Y pipe is what connects the two headers into one pipe to the Cat?

Still need a recommendation on which headers, cat, and cat-back brands to use.

x and H pipes are crossover pipes that ballance out each side when you do dual exhuast to give it a better sound and improve flow. If you go single, check out Maremont part number M30001. its a mandrel bent 3" tailpipe for 66-96 Ford trucks, autozone sells em for $24.99. Thats the only brand name help I can give you.
