I have had this problem for a while 1,2,3,4 all work fine when I shift to 5th it stays until i accelerate then slips out? I pulled the transfer case the extension housin to reveal gears and items i'm not to familiar with I didcheck the syncro ring for damage and a visual didn't see any broken teeth or any sign of damage .....I heard sometimes it could be as easy as a loose bolt but again not sure about this area I need this problem fixed ASAP! any help would be great
at least its 5th, i lost 2nd altoghter a couple of years ago, cost 1,100 for a rebuilt trans and i had to change it out in early feb in ohio in a drafty unheated barn. i wish it would have been 5th, id have drivin it till it was dead as only a 4 spd. as a test this summer i drove my weekly commute and didnt use 5th to see what effect it would have on fuel economy. it made only 1 mpg difference. over the 120 miles for the week it got 17, the week before (same route, empty box, same weather/temperature conditions) i got 18. it turns around 2,000rpm @ 55 in 5th with 3.73 gears and stock 235-15 tires. in 4rth it was 2,500 rpms.
