Has anyone tried retro fitting a late model 302 roller cam, lifters, keepers, hold down and pushrods into a an early 302? Is it even possible? If so how is it done?
if you want to find a 351W in one of those cars look for a police issued one (not the lincolns), but im not positive that they were offered those yrs or if they were ever rollered but i think they were

There are two basic ways to go about doing a roller swap in an early block, both will set you back about $600, give or take a hundred. In order to use the factory roller cam in a non roller block, you must use a set of Crane's retrofit link bar lifters, these sell for $425 or so. Or you can use the factory roller lifters and retainer hardware, but you must use a reduced base circle cam as the non roller lifter bores are shorter and the lifters will need to set down farther in the hole to avoid exposing the oiling bands on the lifters. These reduced base cams run about $350 last time I checked, and you'll also need custom length pushrods to go with em. That's another $100+ dollars. Unless you're going for all out racing and want to eek out every bit of power, the cost just isn't worth the small gains. You're better off starting over with a factroy roller block, these are a dime a dozen.
yes they are cheap in my area you can pick a roller moter up , in the car/ truck for about 50-150 bucks just start looking around houses for cars with out of date tags and then asking about them ive had id say 5-8 of them and have only paid tops 50 for one most were just take it, all ran and drove needed things like tires, gas tank, heater core, but all drove home

I bought a running, but wrecked 88 Lincoln Mark VII a few years ago for $500, with the HO 5.0 . Everything worked, cept for the speedo was screwed up from the impact (right rocker panel pushed in about 8") The right door was off the car. Did make some awesome burnout pics before a friend gutted it for the motor.
