figuring out a ratio

i have an extra 3rd member laying around and to figure the ratio i mark a tooth on the ring gear and count how many turns of the pinion it takes for one full revolution of the ring gear?? like i spin the pinion 3.5 turns for the ring gear to make one, thats a 3:50 ratio am i figuring this right or is there a more acurate way to figure this out

The way to do this is Count the Ring gear teeth and Divide by the Drive pinion gear teeth like this.
Lets say the ring teeth is 41 and the drive pinion is 10. 41 divided by 10 = 4.10 ratio ok
