4 Wheel Drive Trouble
#17
hay guys I'n not a ranger owner I gotta f250 but my good buddy is a huge ranger fan and we have replaced every thing from the front hubs to the rebuilding the t-case.the best thing we have done to is narrow a 44 hi pinion and a 9in for the rear with 4.10's we found it to be a bullet proof set up if done right.
O and what manual **** t-case do the older rangers have?I'v seen some older ones and never crawled under to read the tag

you can check the lockouts by engauging the 4 wheel drive and either taking the front drive shaft loose and trying to turn it or lifting a wheel of the ground and see if it turns. if it turns ur lockouts are bad. im thinking you have vacuum lock outs but someone will correct me if im wrong. these are troublesome in the rangers and im hopefull that is your problem because its usually a gentle fix
Matt
p.s. can you hear the 4 wheel drive engage? turn the truck off and turn the key on and see if you can hear the motor

The pulse vacume system is very promlematic on 98-2000 rangers, the only good perminate fix, is a set of AVM manual hubs. You can purchase them from tellico4x4.com for 98.95 a set. AVM are the only ones that make manual hubs for the pulse vacume rangers. On the older ranger 4x4's with auto hubs, you can get manual hubs from warn. The 2 most common things to go wrong are the electric shift motor and the auto hubs.

The light on the control module comes on steady for about 1 minute after pushing white re-set then goes out
Thanks.
