Ok, I have no doubt that all of this is covered SOMEWHERE in here already but I seem to be unable to search the threads and find it.
I recently bought a '92 7.3 Auto 4x4 with less than 80,000mi on it and think it is wise to go through and do all of the maintenances that should have been done but I have no record of.
Question time.
1. What is the best type/weight of oil to use in these motors? (Western WA Climate is MILD. +25 is about as cold as it ever gets here and even that is rare.)
2. What brand of Air/Oil/Fuel/Tranny filters should I look for and look out for?
3. Are NAPA/Schucks/Auto Zone a good enough source for quality products? If not, any recommendations in the Tacoma/Federal Way area?
4. Who makes a good service manual for theses trucks?
5. Diesel Kleen. What is it? When is it good to use and when is it not a good idea?
Any help would be appreciated. The truck is in great shape. Shows only 80,000mi on the Odometer and the condition bears that out. No smoke at all that I can see from the mirrors. No power issues at all.
Diesel clean is a fuel additive to be added to every fill now for the lubrication required since No sulpher has been introduced...... Hayes diesel treat and Stanadyne products are good too........
Not in my book. I won't run the extra mileage between changes to even out the cost. Only real difference I see in syn is the fact that it doesn't mix with water, so it doesn't create as much sludge. Change the dino oil often enuff and you won't have sludge.

1. 15-40 or 10-40(cold weather)
2. Carquest-napa-wiall the same),donaldson, motorcraft, stay away from fram
3. Carquest or napa
4. chilton
5. good stuff use it to clean the fuel system or in the winter time to keep fuel from gelling
I run Mobil synthetic in mine.
I still change it at 3000 miles.
I do work mine rather hard and it has a turbo.
The synthetic oil has more resistance to thermal breakdown, which is an issue in turbo engines that are worked hard.
I rate my truck use at extreme, which is two notches above severe, hence the synthetic oil and 3000 mile oil changes.
I use a Fleetguard LF 3630 filter.
Purolator air and fuel filters.
The soot and acids in the oil from combustion is what I want out of my engine.
