Did anyone ever put a 460 motor into a 1980's F150? Would the suspension be heavy enough to carry the weight of the motor? Does an AOD tranny bolt up to a 460? Thanks, Tim
I did it. The engine was from a T-bird and it bolted in with only having to drill two holes. My truck was an 86, 4x4 originally a 351 in it. I didn't notice the the trucks sat any lower to the ground and I never had any problems with bottoming out on big bumps. The only thing I would say to watch for in advance is if the engine and tranny will sit in the truck straight and not leaning back to far. I have a 3in body lift and it barely fit with that. I did have to notch a crossmemeber so that the drive shaft didn't hit it, as far as that, these were the biggest hurdles.
All in all it was a relatively easy intall of the engine but be prepared to do alot of little extras to get it right. It took a friend and I a fews beers, some swear words and a weekend to get the job done.
Good luck if you do it and most importantly have fun, its worth it in the end.
A couple of things I remembered about the swap, make sure all the engine gaskets are new, it is a tight fit, if the pan gasket leaks you will have to pull it again, also get a remote oil filter system. The only filter I found that would fit was off a dodge and only about 2in tall.
