My dad is retired Air Force. He spent time in the jungle in the Viet Nam era, and time in the desert in the Desert Storm era. My father-in-law is an ex-helicopter crewchief in the Army. My grandfather-in-law (rest his soul) was also an Army helicopter crewchief with a tour in the Korean war and 3 (3!) tours in Viet Nam. He volunteered for the second 2. When Desert Storm kicked off, he had long since been retired. He put on his uniform, drove over to Fort Campbell, and told them he was ready to go back to work! He was in his 60's, and not a happy man when they turned him away! I am an active duty Air Force F-16 crewchief with more time away from home than I care to remember.
Obvioiusly, the original question is a retorical one, but I'll tell you what does offend me. It's not the idiots (foreign and domestic) that choose to desicrate The Flag; it's the well-intentioned citizens that do it unintentionally. Patriotic people who wear flag shirts (see rule 8d in the link), or companies like Bank of America (see rule 8i) that use the flag in their logo. People have to understand that The Flag is a living entity. It's not "a" flag, it's "The" Flag and should be treated as such. There are people dying for The Flag at this very moment...
...and women please, even though many of you have nice uh, female parts, and even though many of them make me want to stand up and salute, I still don't want to see The Flag on your bikini.
Ignorance is nothing to be ashamed of, and it's not incurable. Ignorance is simply a lack of education about a particular topic.. So please, those of you who are ignorant of "the rules", educate yourselves with the following link...

I think I posted earlier that my son, a second year Webelo, had the honor of carrying the flag for our cub scout pack during the Veteran's Day memorial service in front of the county court house. I was very proud.
The sign reminds me of the imortal words of the Hag "If you don't love it, leave it"
i think the first pickup with the big flag and bumper sticker needs a longer flag pole. i'm not offended but there's proper protocol for handing any nation's flag and that first pic looks like the flag is gonna hang on the floor of the truck and get dirty and that's not right. kwikkordead's got the right idea. his flag is more proportional to his ride.
and i don't like ATC's picture. i don't think fireworks and the graves of your country men who die in battle belong together. offensive? no. tacky? yes.
I think everyone needs to fly the American flag. It does not matter if it's on a truck, house, motorcycle or airplane. Be proud of your country and of those that defend it!
Of course we're not offended by The Flag. More people just need to display it correctly. See my previous post. I think the main idea of the origional post is being overlooked here.

It honors thoes (or makes us remember) the lives lost to keep our country free. Think 4th of July when we won our true independence.
