I know this sounds dumb, but here it goes. My passenger side door locks with a key, no problem. I understand that this is the only door that should have a lock, no problem. How do I get the drivers side door to lock?
NOT a dumb question! I have a '59 that I am doing the same thing on. All I did was get a door lock and hardware from John's F-Fun Hundreds. I'll have a hole cut on the driver's side door to fit the mechanism, and hopefully, viola!!!
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 26-Jun-02 AT 01:00 PM (EST)]Thanks, I will go home and pull it up and see what happens.
You guys are great!
I sold my bone stock 1928 Ford Tudor to buy this 1952 truck to have something a little faster to cruise in on the weekends. The new technology on this truck has confused me a time or two. It is also amazing to see what things have not changed since the model A. I still have my 1928 roadster, pure stock. If you have any questions in the model A arena, I am an expert, as I have built 3 National show winners from the bare frame up.
I am quickly becoming a truck expert with all of your help. I hope to soon be helping others on this board.
There's an old saying that's used often and it's as true on this board as anywhere else.
"There are no dumb questions, only dumb answers."
I get reminded of it fairly often when I post a question and find out from the answers that my brain was in neutral - again. ;-)
Don't ever be afraid of asking a question just because you think it might be dumb. There are probably a dozen other folks out there that have the same question but were afraid to ask. You might be doing them a big favor!
I had heard (on this board I think) that Ford wanted you to get out the passenger (curb) door so no lock on the driver side was a safety feature. A word of warning: lifting the handle on either door will lock it so it's easy to get locked out, even with the key in your pocket. My fathers 46 Chrysler was the same. One solution I've heard of is to leave a hole large enough in the fire wall to snake a hook through to the door handle.

Pulled them up, they lock. My 1928 Model A only has one lock on the passenser side too. This was law back in the day, as it was illegal to exit a vehicle into traffic.
Well I must be the lucky one here because my 54 f100 has door locks on both sides, and you can't lock your keys inside because if you lock the door from the inside then shut it, it'll unlock automaticaly.
