97 no start then start

let glow plugs stay on for a bit longer on my 97 last night when started on way home from work. then i started vehicle and it just cranked. tach was reading zero rpm. every now and then it would try to start and when this happened the tach moved up to about 200 or so and then back to zero. so i turned key off..waited about 5 seconds..then tried again and it started up. drove home and drove different vehicle to school today so truck hasnt been driven since. attempted to start it later that night and at about 130 this morning as well, truck started fine....? cam sensor possibly because no rpm registration on tach? but im hesitant on that thought because it started up and ran fine once it started....

i would lean towards a new cam sensor. some just go completly and other seems to be hit and miss till they go.

i'll put a new one in...is there anything else that would cause the tach to not operate ? or is the cam sensor the only signal input for the tach in the cab?
