48 mercury
Hi all, I also have wonderings about the 48 cab and front fenders and hood fitting on a later chassis. Have a 48 Mercury cab from a fire truck and a 79f150 chassis(body just plain rotted away, 262,000 miles, 2 engines and 2 trannies). Have not got serious with a tape measure yet but maybe someone here has already done this. Am contemplating putting the 48 cab on the 79 running gear and running a flat deck in place of the box. Do the fenders come close to covering the tires and appear correct or are the track of the 79 and the width of the 48 too different? Have a 302 done right that would be good for this setup. I have a 49 panel that was dropped onto a 79 2WD frame. It was never really mounted, just placed there for transport and eventual install. From what I remember, the tires sit real close to the wheel openings, if not beyond. I expect that I'll have to flare the wheelopenings or get special off set rims when I get around to this project.
