Rattle in a 2006 EB expedition. It is still under warranty; however, I wouldnt mind fixing it if I can find it first. It occurs while in drive or reverse while idling. If I press on the gas a little to change the rpms...it gets worse for a second and then stops after a little more pressure on the pedal. If I put it in Neutral or Park it stops. (makes it a little hard to find by yourself).
It sounds like it is somewhere behind the lower part of the dash board on the passenger side. Just above where your feet would be if you were sitting in the passenger seat. Any thoughts? Can someone maybe do a search for me who can and see if anyone else has this issue and let me now where to find the thread?
I've done some searching on dash rattles and the ones that are most prevalent are top passenger side and airbag cover. I've got the rattle in the airbag cover, but the dealer won't fix it because "they don't hear it". So I just stick a penny in the seam.
From what you describe make sure it's nothing in your glove box. Also, you can pull down the glove box and check the area behind it for any loose wires/bolts.
Bridge, thanks for running a search. Unfortunately, I think mine is behind the glove compartment somewhere. I may look behind there tomorrow. Ive checked all the exterior dash areas...and didnt find anything....im almost positive it is deep in the dash somewhere. I tried checking under the truck and in the engine compartment too...pain in the butt.
Just wanted to post an update. Turns out the rattle I had was coming from the transmission filler tube rubbing up against the firewall. Could of sworn it was inside the cabin....oh well it is fixed.
good question, Ill have to look. I think he said they just needed to reposition it. They rattle went away and never bothered to look. Maybe they removed it. :-)
My 03 Expedition was making the same rattle sound and turns out it was a hose rubbing on the Evaporator canister at certain rpm's. The sound was right behind the glove compartment and happens only around 2K rpms. It took the dealership 7 hrs to figure out where the sound was coming from.
