I have an 85 F250 with a 351w. I bought it for $500 and am restoring it. I fixed just about everything wrong with the engine so far but I need to know what the oil pressure is supposed to be at idle. Also it has an aftermarket oil pressure gauge cause the stock no longer works. Im not sure if the gauge reads correctly so how can I find out. Right now it reads 20psi at idle (950 rpms).
Also, be wary of "El Cheapo" aftermarket gauges; they may be very inaccurate. I've got one that takes 14 psi to move off of zero but, it's pretty good from 30 psi up. The better gauges use copper tubes, cheapies use plastic (in general).
i just put a new rebuilt engine in my 86 f250 from adavance. i have around 1300 miles on my 400 and when first started (cold) it set right at 60psi and after hot (190deg) it sets right above 20 psi at 6-900rpm. and regluar interstate speeds holds at 40psi
