highest mileage I have personally gotten out of a 351c was in a 74 montego, stripped the timing chain at 158,000 miles (approx) motor still ran good, didn't smoke, got 17mpg and never burned oil. since the car was junk I yanked the motor sold it to another guy who put it into a pickup with a new timing chain and was still running it 2 yrs later. Haven't talked to him in 15 yrs so I have no idea how far it actually ended up going.
What is the max gas mileage I can get out of mine if I do a tune up on it? Right now it gets about 12 mpg in its current state. I plan on getting a quality exhaust system and putting a original Motorcraft carb back on it.
So is it possible for a Cleveland to run up to 200K or more before requiring a rebuild? Like I said in my earlier post, I only have 116K on mine. It is so original that I'm afraid to daily drive it because I don't wanna destroy the originality.
