Does anyone know how to trouble shoot a tachometer in a 1991 ford F-150 ,4.9 liter engine, manual transmission,2 wheel drive? It would work for a day, then not work for a week, then work again then not again. It has been not working for 6 months now. Any suggestions? Thanks, Rich
check the green wire thats hooked in to the coil it will be on the TEST or TACH side of the coil. if its corroded it will work real ****ty also check and try replacing the fuse, i think its #13 on that year 300 six
sorry, it's your programmable spedometer. it is located on the back of your gauge cluster. fairly common problem on our trucks. the best thing to do is to get the whole cluster off a doner truck at a yard for around $50. ford charges $700ish the this new (I think). the cluster is attached by 3 wire harnesses and can be fixed in no time.
I don't believe its the PSOM, as the teachomoter wiring does not pass through the PSOM. Furthurmore, since it is a 1991 truck, it doesn't have a PSOM. 1991 has a purely mechanical speedometer.
