E-Brake installation questions

Hello. My '46 pickup had its hand operated emergency brake removed years ago, before I fabricated new floor pans and a firewall for it. I would like to remount it but I am confused as to how it attaches at the floor area near my left foot. Does anybody have a photo showing the attachment of the hand lever assembly inside the cab? I found two holes a few inches in from the door pillar on the bottom surface of the dash that match the upper two holes in the hand brake casting but even the top mounting surface does not set squarely against the dash panel. If I were to try to tighten these two bolts the dash panel would be severely distorted. Is there some sort of insulator(s) that go between the hand brake and the cab. As far as the lower mounting it looks like Im about an inch short and, again, not square to the toe board. I'll build some angle shims if necessary but I would like it to be "right". Thanks for enlightening me.

It attaches between the bottom of the dash and the firewall. Should be pretty much at a right angle to the firewall.

Mine is not even close to fitting - about 2" short. Does anybody have pictures? Does the cable pass through the 1" dia hole in the floor or is that for the headlight dimmer switch? Thank you again.

I was just working on that last night. I was getting my cab ready to pull off my frame and found that it was easiest to take the cable loose at the hand brake for now. My cable came through one of the 2 removable floor panels, but now I can't remember if it was the brake clutch plate or the tranny cover. I think for sure your 1" hole is going to be for the dimmer switch.

I will look at what I have this evening and try to post some picts if someone doesn't get to it before me, my lever is still in its "stock" location.

So my truck had the e-brake cable running through the top side of the removable panel over the brake and clutch pedals (above the sreering column). As 45ford says the mechanism is between the dash and the fierwall and is just about perpendicular to the firewall. It attaches about an inch or so from the driver's side kickpanel at the firewall.

I posted several pictures on my gallery of this setup, let me know if you want something a little different, I should be able to get it for you. Hope this helps you.

Of course at some time I might delete these picts in favor of something else (so for future readers of this forum, PM me and I will try to get the pictures to you also).

Oh NOW I see! Thank you Mr Soule46. Your pictures clarified everything. Know what I was trying to do? Attach the top to the two holes UNDER the dash that hold a toggle switch instead of the two holes OVER the dash near the defroster outlet duct. I did have to drill a new hole through my floor pan for the cable since I eliminated the cover plate when I built the recessed firewall for my 460 big block.

Thanks to all for your help.
