I have a 1995 F-150 4X4 with a 5.8 motor. The problem I am having is I go through a starter about every 4-6 months. My question is, "Is there a heat shield to protect the starter on that particular model?" After it has been on for a few months I will get in it and all it does is clicks. I get out tap on the starter and it will usually start. I remove the starter and take it back to Auto Zone and they say yep it's bad. I am using their lifetime guarantee starter and I know it probably isn't the best it should last more than 4-6 months. A heat shield is all I can think of that may be the problem. If anyione has another thought I am open to any thing. Does anyone know where I might get an after market shield if there isn't an OEM one available?
Thanks,
Fyrfytr
Ford makes a heat shield for the solenoid F4TZ-11006-A list $6.62 but I really think it is the cheapo starter from Autozone. But if your time is not a issue keep using the Autozone starter. If your time is valuable spend a few bucks more and at least get a Napa starter, better yet a OEM factory one from me.
Thanks Ed,
You are probably right. Give me a price on a starter and if it makes sense next time it goes bad I will get a refund and give you a call.
Thanks again,
Terry

local airport uses these on luggage movers so I have 10 in stock
Where is Murrays? I live in Utah and I have never heard of it. How long have you had the Bosch starter on your truck? I don't mind paying the extra money Auto Zone was just close. There may also be a problem with the exchange since I gave Auto Zone an exchange they may not want to give my money back plus an exchange. Although they should.
Thanks for the info.
