windshield fogging up when starting
windshield fogging up when starting
Hi Guys,
I'm new here and don't have enough posts to do a search, so I appologize. I wanted to know if there are any issues/repairs that need to be done to correct a fogging up windshield after I restart my 97 moutaineer with a 302. I don't have a heater core issue, it just seems to be only after it rains, and was wondering if there were any heater case issues where rain water was getting in there. Thanks in advance for your help.

this is normal as long as the windshield clears in a minute with the defrost on.
The a/c operates in the defrost cycle when heat is on, dehumidifies the incoming air, when you shut it off the icing melts and on restart you get the momentary rush of moist air from the condenser.
NOTE: if your windshield is dirty it will fog more and clear slower.
also make sure the condenser drain is clear.....should see water drain after shutdown, just inside and behind right front wheel..

It's the evaporator core drain he needs to check, not the condenser. Also, my 04's Owner's Guide warns not to turn the airflow selector to "OFF" when it's parked, so the interior can breathe; I'm wondering if the 97 is the same.

Hey Guys, I really appreciate the info. I do have the drain cleared and it does clear up quickly, I've just never seen it on any other vehicle I've owned (22 of them) so I thought there might be a problem, guess it's just a FoMoCo thing. Thanks again for the info.
