Talking Tow mirror swap question

Picked up a set of heated/power/turn signal tow mirrors on e-bay to swap out on my X. Seems a simple plug and swap procedure.

One question – I have the dog ear heated/power/turn signal mirrors. Will just plugging in the tow mirrors give me the running lights on the mirrors or do I need to make a connection/run a wire?

You know you could have bought those mirrors at the dealer for the same price. Now you have shipping charges as well...

Smile good deal, and easy way out

ummm, XylemXorro, how do you know how much he paid for the mirrors??? he never said a price.... do you know how much they cost from the dealer?? for your info, the mirrors are about $300 each side and then they do NOT come with the outer covers, and for the chrome ones, they are $145 each. add that up and you are talking about $900 list price. since i work at another dealer, i pay cost plus 10%. which is $590. for the mirrors and chrome covers w/signals. so if he got them for cheaper than $600, then he got a great deal. oh, i dont put used parts on my truck, thats why i go to the dealers.

slamdunkpro, yes, you will have to run a wire for the running light. what i did, and made it really easy, was to tap into the illumination wire for the lights on the door lock buttons. on mine it is a blue wire. the down side is that the mirror lights come on when the ignition is on and do not work with the light switch. so even with the light switch off, the mirror lights are always on. but, it was super easy to run a 6" piece of wire to the lock switch rather than running wire through the door and so on. i chose the easy way to do it.

do the aftermarket mirrors perform as good as factory? i've seen some people "say" that they vibrate to the point they are useless. i would like to get a set of aftermarkets, but i hesitate for this reason.

ummm, stalledX, they must put out alot of advertising where you work. All the profit they make from ripping people off must go somewhere. You can get those same mirrors at a place in Orlando for $270 each. Also, I know what he paid because I bid on the same mirrors...duh. Anyway, I really enjoyed the cocky reply. Keep up the attitude!

I just bought a set of tow mirrors from partstrain.com about a month ago (power, heated, double-swing) and there is almost no vibration. I havent had a chance to really get out on the highway, but at speeds up to about 65, the vibration is barely perceptable, and doesn't interfere with the use of a mirror. I say save some $$ and buy aftermarket, but maybe thats just because im 17 and on a budget

If when I get a chance to really get up to speed on some bumpier roads (i think tomorrow maybe) I will repost if the vibration proves to be a problem, but doubt it will.

good luck with the swap no matter what mirrors you choose!

Thumbs down

Update

Sigh,,,,,my E-bay mirrors arrived busted up. Both turn indicator lenses, the inner white diffusers and the turn LED’s – ruined. Oh well, I guess it’s off to the dealer and pony up $600+ for new ones.

Smile broken mirror covers

if its just the signals that are all broken, you can just buy new covers, or buy the lenses from recon. they have replacement lights for them. the black covers are about $100 list and the chrome covers are about $140 list. i paid $96 each for the chrome covers, but i'm a dealer. pm me if you need a black cover. i have the right one. but it has a very small crack in the signal lens. thats why i bought the chrome ones.

Well, there's not many Ford dealers in Orlando. You can figure it out pretty easily. I'll give you a hint...they only sell commercial vehicles.

One other thing, I just got a pair of these mirrors BRAND NEW off of ebay for $426. No joke!
