Hi guys,
Just try to get my '93 ready for sale and ran into a snag.
I haven't seen it myself, but the wife and the mechanic doing the safety (pre-sale requirement in Manitoba) Have both had the speedo start to blink and then dissapear altogether while driving. Any ideas?
Again, I haven't had a chance to look at it myself yet, but I REALLY don't like elctrical problems!!!!
Thanks for the input!
This sounds like the speed sensor is malfuntioning. An Eddie Bauer with digital dash has the speed sensor in the differential. I bought a used 1994 on E-Bay and that same problem happened to it also.
I had various displays and sensor circuits go haywire on my 1990 with the digital dash. I figured out at one point that when they started to act up, I can give a sharp whack at the top of the dash over the instrument panel, and it would go away for a while. This seemed to me to be a problem with flaky connection, so I went into it to find out why. I found two large electronic modules that were clamped to the main circuit board with lots of spring-contact pins. I cleaned those out with tuner cleaner/lube from Radio Shack, and those problems never returned.
This may or may not be your problem, but it's easy and cheap to check out first.
I was wondering about the speed sensor. I'll look into that. I may have to pull the dash and check the conections too, b ut I think I'll start with the sensor. Just a bit easier to get to.
Thanks guys, I'll keep you posted.
