But just in case you didn't know, there is another option. If you can find a used manual gearbox from an 80's little Ranger it will bolt right up. You need only change the pitman arm. Since these trucks are quite a bit smaller and lighter you tend to find used boxes in a lot better shape than those of big work trucks.
The same thing applies to the power boxes too, plus 91-4 Explorers can donate power boxes. In about all cases when swapping between 2wd and 4wd or different vehicle types you have to swap the Pitman arm.
Yeah, I understand M-A-N-U-A-L, but I also understand the importance of POWER brakes! The title on the front page "manual steering box" made me wonder. Hence the sigh of relief.
Importance of power brakes? How so? My 82 F100 came factory with manual brakes and they work just fine, even when towing. My Bronco has power brakes, I find them a bit too "touchy" but they also work just fine.
