4wd problem
I have an 03 explorer. When I push the 4 high or 4 low button nothing happens. I checked the fuses and they are all fine. Anyone seen tis problem before? Thanks.

the shift motor only works for 4x4low.
for 4high you need B voltage on the single brown wire that goes from the connector block on t/c to the clutch pack on the t/c.
so press the 4hi button and probe the brown wire for 12vdc, ignition has to be in run for this test. let me know

Nothing with voltage tester. Do I have to have the button pressed while I test it? Or just press it then go under and check it.

Checked the selector today and it has power to a black wire with pink stripe and a purple wire with orange stripe.

Yes, but does it have 12vdc on the wire going to the clutch pack when the switch is in 4hi position?
OK Bob,
This is how this baby works,
2Hi, no power to T/C, rear drive only.
4Hi, power to clutch pack in T/C, activates electromagnetic clutch which compresses plates in clutch pack, 50/50 front and rear drive in high gear.
4Lo, power remains on clutch pack, electric shift motor operates and changes gear ratio in T/C, 50/50 front and back drive in low gear.
to activate theT/C
4Hi, can be activated on the go by selecting 4Hi on switch
4Lo, vehicle must be stopped , in nuetral and brake applied .
If you have no power to the clutch pack 4x4 will not work, if the motor operates with no power to clutch pack you will have 2 wheel low.

If your fuses are Ok, you will have to check the ECM as that is where the power for the clutch comes from. I beleive there is a master fuse for the ECM under the hood in the power distribution box.
Good luck, let us know the outcome

When you said the fuses were fine, did you mean you tested and had power in/out of them or just visual?
