EGT much higher than normal

I have noticed lately that the EGT temp. has been a little higher than normal. Tonight it was up to 1000 on an easy pull and easily reached 1200 on a hill which I have never seen before. Also, normally when I let off it going down a hill it would drop quickly. Tonight it was hard to get it below 900 to a 1000. When I shut it off, it stayed at about 900 for over five minutes. About 15 or 20 minutes later with it off the whole time it was about 600. Any ideas will be appreciated.

Thanks, Ed

It's a 97 powerstroke with no chip or other modifications that I know of.

Has it been cold where your at?? I would bet your exhaust back pressure valve is sticking shut. Unplug it and see what happens.

Itfox,
Thanks for the post. Where is the valve and how do I disconnect it?

Thanks, Ed

The valve is what the exhaust downpipe connects to, right after the exhaust turbine. The plug to it is located almost under the turbo, it is a 2 prong plug, jusy unplug it and it should stay in the open position.
