Ok well like 3 weeks ago I was on here looking for some help on fixing my Navi's spark plugs well I was changing plug num 5 ( drivers side first plug ) and opened it up and Oh! Look! Oil ok so Valve Cover Gasket was the reasonable assumption took it into Firestone ( on the phone he asked if it was a Mercury Navigator my buddies and I still laugh about that ) anyway, so I took it in yesterday to fixi the VCG and get a tune-up for $449.00( no time to do the plugs myself now ). Well, they call me today and say oh we didnt know it was a DOHC I'm like I freaking told you that yesterday ( well, I didnt say that but I wanted too ) so he says it is now going cost $900.00 im like I'll call you back I need sometime to think about it. 30 mins later I call I ask him to go over with me again what needs to be fixed so, it needs the VCG fixed on both sides, Tune-up ( does that include the spark plug boots? ) and an EKG Gasket ( I have no idea what that is ) and somthign with the Intake Manifold. So, he said it will al cost $993.00!! I'm like wait you said 30 mins ago it was going to cost $900.00 why the priice jump? He then apologizes and and tells me the old estimate is still on there and the Diagnostic price so he then lowers it to $903.00.
So, I am now taking it to my dealer for a second opinion I know some people there and they actually know about Navi's. Anyway, though sorry for my rant I am just frustrated that this will cost me almost a grand maybe more! And sorry for any grammer errors I didn't get past the 3rd grade!
There's no reason for that repair to cost that much. The gaskets are reasonable-less than $50/set,and the plugs are only $2.50 each at a good dealer. I highly doubt that the firestone place is changing the boots-most of those places will argue that you have to change the entire coil if the boot is bad,and even some Ford dealers don't know that the boot is a seperate service item.Likely they're pulling the intake manifold to do the gasket swap, and to do that-the EGR valve must be removed as well, and it'll need a gasket too.

If ya made it past 5th grade you'd be drivin' an Expy . I agree that almost a grand for plugs and a gasket is crazy. I'd certainly shop around if it's driveable.
