my shift on the fly **** isnt working and I dont have time to get it fixed b4 this weekend which ill be needing it. Does anyone know if its possible to engage the 4wd by removing the actuator and using a wrench? im almost positive there is a way to engage it without the shift on the fly. Anybody with some better know how then me please help me out thanks.
take a block of wood, climb under yer truck-whack the actuator on the side of the transfer case-don't try to break it, but be firm! the actuator looks like a big window lift motor and has wiring. try a couple of times, you may find that the actuator is rusted internally from location and lack of use. this all i can recommend. good luck
You might want to just chk the fuses first!!!!!!
How do you know its the actuator motor? could be the swithc fuese ,relays or hubs or the guy operating the switch.
Only cavemen hit things with hammers!!!!!!!!!!
The downfall to pulling the actuator motor and manually turning the transfercase is that might not be the problem and you will be stuck in 4hi all the time with the front hubs locked .

checked all fuses last night all are good, i doubt its corrosion because i used it a lot. Before it stopped working the 4x4 light in the dash started flickering and i could here the transfer case engaging and disengaging then it died completely it might be the actuator but i just dont have time to fix it for this weekend ill be in sand dunes for 2 days straight so i should be fine running in 4x4 hi untill im ready to jump back on the pavement then back in 2wd. thanks for the help tho anybody else?
I know on my Bronco II and Ranger when you pull the shift motor off stamped in the transfer case itself behind the motor it will say, 2H, 4H, 4L. Just turn the shaft until it lines up with the lettering. I would think the SD's would be the same concept.
