How do you know if you have a blown head gasket? Coud it be minor and stll drivable. I read another post that made me think this could be my problem. How do they ckeck for something like this?
It can be major and still driveable, but you really have to watch your coolant level carefully. I'll let a tech pipe in and tell you the best process to determine the headgasket thing. It's not easy even for them sometimes. You should also watch your oil to make sure it's not leaking internally, but usually it's out the overflow bottle if it's major.
NO--and I wrote a long explanation in the previous thread you asked this question in so excuse my finger cramps if I don't type it over--LOL. I wish it was that easy, but it's not. I think the ford flatrate manual says 35hrs or is it 44 hrs to change head gaskets. usually about a $4k job--maybe more maybe less.
If they fix a water leak in a hose then two days later replace the reservoir because it was leaking. Now three weeks later and no leaks (but two injectors & a y pipe) could it be a head gasket? What do i look for next?
13 hours?????????? No way. Do they give you a specific prodecure for doing it in 13 hours??? I guess that's lifting the cab and not unbolting the motor out of the frame, etc. Still.......that's BS. especially since I know what it takes to do it......with 2 people who are both experienced.
ADDED NOTE: THIS IS ANOTHER REASON TO BE KIND AND THANK YOUR FORD TECH!!!
WITH FLAT RATES LIKE THIS IT'S A WONDER THEY EVEN WANT TO GO
TO WORK IF THEY HAVE TO FACE THESE EVERY DAY.
i am all male and i love women, but ill hug ya if you come tell my boss this. warranty is like 13 hours and customer is like 23.
Am I reading this right??? If it is being done under warranty (paid for by Ford) you get 13 hours, but if it is not under warranty (paid for by Joe Public) then you get 23 hours???

Yup, that's the way the flat rate system works. The manufacturer is not going to pay the tech the proper amount it really takes to fix the factories mistakes. The tech takes it in the shorts.

And it's worth more than 23 hours to do the headgasket job. If you ever have to do it you'll understand.

Oh, I'm not doubting the time and trouble it takes to do the job. I'm no stranger to a wrench. I just can't believe that they would alot a different amount of time to do a job depending on who is paying for it.
