My 2001 F-150 is not holding an idle after start-up. It normally hovers around 600 RPM, but once started it will die. Not every time. It happens randomly. But once it happens from a dead start, I have to ride the break to get it going. It will then die at a stop light in the same way. It won't hold an idle. It gives no service engine light. I changed the fuel filter, but it still does it. Six months ago I changed the EGR valve.
On the side of the throttle body should be a metallic cylinder, probably held on with a couple of bolts. Remove it, spray some throttle body cleaner inside of it and drain it out. Let it dry and replace, see if that fixes it. That's the IAC (Idle Air Control valve), it controls your idle when the throttle butterfly valve is fully closed.
My 01' Screw doing same thing. But I have an aftermarket Air-Force one air intake installed similiar to the K&N. I don't even see the IACV would it even be there with the after market air intake installed? And if not what could my problem be?
absolutely, it should still be there. When you are looking at the engine from the front of the truck, it should be on the right side of the throttle body on top. It is a silver cylinder with a plug hooked up to it. Your truck would not work at all without it, so it is there.
hi, i have been having the same problems with my 01 w/ 4.6L. i have changed the iac with out it helping. do you think it could be the maf or plugs or c.o.p.'s. thanks for any information you can provide.
It was my IAC valve causing the problem. My mechanic replaced it after trying to clean first also cleaned the MAF sensor as well. Starts like a champ again!! He charged $200.00, well worth it for the ease of mind now.
