when i built my engine, i'm pretty sure i installed the intake first and then the front cover/water pump and the installation of the < 3" long water pump to intake manifold by pass hose installed fairly easily.
i am now getting ready to swap intake manifolds and was wondering if anyone has any tips on getting the hose mated as the intake is going on without having to loosen any bolts on the water pump. is it better to have the hose on the intake or water pump as the intake is installed?
i know i am probably getting excited over nothing, and i know i'll get it on one way or the other, but if anyone has any tips, i would appreciate them.
I never worry about that hose. I just install the manifold torque it with a new piece of 5/8" hose I take alittle vaseline and apply it to both ends of the hose slide it on the manifold crimp it enough to get it started on the pump turn it back & forth until in place then clamp it.
careful using vasilene, as I think the properties of it, might eat the rubber in the hose. I understand that fact that the fluid will wash most of it away, but there will still be some left under the clamped section.
Just a thought, and hate to see a senseless leak.. Especially in a ****ty location..
EEKKSS!!! DO NOT USE VASOLINE!! actually on my desk next to the register in my former shop, i had a bottle of KY Jelly. customers would often look at that with a bit of freakishness. i told them what it was used for, often, as i handed them the bill. actully you pervs, it was used on hoses. it will not affect the rubber properties of hoses, and desolves in water. use oil, and hose will fail in a short time..
