I've a '79 F150 4x4 w/351. I replaced the distributor about 8 months ago. Recently, the truck has been stalling when the engine compartment builds up heat. I've been tracing this issue for several months now and I think I found it.
With the engine warmed up, I can slightly shake or move the wires going into the dizzy and the truck will die every time. I even got quick enough to move the wires back just before it would die to have it recover. I can't get this problem to repeat itself when the engine compartment (wires) are cold however. Does this seem as simple to y'all as it does to me? Shouldn't I be able to just call on the warranty for the dizzy and replace it? It sounds like a bad wire leading into the dizzy. Any suggestions?
The wiring on cheap parts is often made with brittle copper like the old VW bugs had in them. It breaks easily. Sounds like you need a new distributor pickup module.
