I just got done putting my dual 2 1/4 exhaust in with flowmasters and resonator tips! WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!! It was REAL tight to get it in but we finally managed it. Now it sounds like a truck should! It also helped that we found out that the Flapper in the air cleaner horn was stuck closed! No wonder it was running rich.
Now to my question.... I got my hands on a front lift kit for my truck, What I don't have are the springs. Does anyone know where I can get a set of 6" lift springs, or what vechicle I can go junkyarding for that would give me at least 4"? I've found lift springs, but they are mostly 2" or ranger lift springs. This is for my 19 250 explorer with a 460, thanks guys!
The flap stuck closed would only cause the engine to run rich at high RPM's. You may want to check your carb out. Was the air valve stuck closed or just not working for some reason? The thermostatic switch can go bad also. They are available in junkyards for cheap tho. Keep the temp control system working or the carb can ice up in a surprising range of conditions costing you both power, reliability, and fuel economy. There is a good reason the OEMs spent all the $ installing the system.
As for your lift springs question, no idea... If you have good access to junkyards then you can build up your own spring packs. Spring shops can help with arching the springs correctly. Just remember the overall spring length eye-eye shortens as the springs are arched more.
Thanks for the info guys, but I don't think i was specific enough. I was looking for front coil springs. I'm fiding alot of springs for 4wd's but not for 2wd. Can I use the 4 or 6 inch lift springs for a 4wd?
Yes you can "use" them, however you WILL need to adjust the camber/caster issues that will arise from the spring height,,, you can make dropdown brackets for the I-Beam/axle pivots, and I think Superlift has the drop Radius arm brackets. You are saying this is for a 2wd truck correct?! The trucks height will change, but your axles will have to stay in the same spot...so that is why you would need to make drop brackets for everything.
