Resealing Steering Box

I just bought a set of gaskets and seals that I will use to try to keep more of the gear lube INSIDE of the steering box on my 1956 F100. Does anyone have a diagram, illustration, cut-away drawing, etc. of the steering box on my truck? Thanks for the help.

Wink

As I remember there are only two gaskets to seal the box up. It will be obvious as to where they go. I cleaned the mating surfaces real good and used some sealant like a gasket maker product to insure a good seal. I would highly encourage you getting one of the original Ford truck shop manuals. The book will show illustrations, how to disassemble and reassemble many, many parts and correct torques. I see them on E-Bay all the time or you can get one new from most any of the parts suppliers for the mid fifty trucks.

I agree...the shop manual is a great resource. New they are around $30 for the 56. Just about everyone carries the reprints. I bought one before I bought my truck just to learn all I could.

My box is leaking too. If you get yours to stop, please post how you did it.

Thanks,
Brian
