I have a oil leak that was coming from right behind the engine. Looked in the valley and the front was dry, middle had a little oil residue, and the back right under the turbo was all oily. tried to see where it was coming from but couldn't really see much. I'm not to familier with my turbo, I will be alot more familier with it later this week. The valve that i believe to be the ebpv, coming off the turbo right before the downpipe, looks pretty wet with oil. Couldn't see any oil coming out of where it goes into the turbo but that looked to be the highest point that was wet. Is it possible for this to leak? and how would i fix it if that is where the leak is coming from. I ordered the 11 peice turbo bolt and oring kit from kcm diesel and am also planning on putting in my wicked wheel at the same time. Any help or advice on where this oil leak is and how to fix it would be much appreciated. Thanks
Sounds like it's the o-rings between the turbo and pedestal. Your kit has new ones in it. It may also be the EBPV actuator rod where it exits the pedestal. No much you can do about that without replacement parts, but you wil be able to get a very good look at it as soon as the turbo comes off.
What parts would i need if it is the ebp exiting the pedestal? Complete rebuild? Is there any way, while the turbo is still on or when i get it off, to tell for sure where exactly the leak is coming from, things to look for? Maybe i should just take it in under the 100,000 mile warrenty and pay the 100 dollar deductable? Hate to do that if it's only an o-ring. Thanks
I had replaced my pedestal rings a few times when removing the turbo, and it still didnt fix my leak. It ended up being the rod that comes out of the pedestal for the EBPV linkage had a "hardened" seal on it. You can get a rebuilt kit for the pedestal from (i believe) Dieselsite, or do like i did and eliminate the EBPV all together with a new pedestal without the actuator cast in it. I had oil on the right side of the engine and not so much on the left, and a nice thick stream of oil baked on my downpipe to the first flange.
Thanks Kris. From what i can see that sounds like where mine is coming from. I'm just going to take mine into the dealer and pay the 100 dollar deductable and let them fix it since i assume the rebuild kit would be around the same price. I don't want to get rid of the ebpv cause it gets pretty cold in wisconsin and the truck sits outside most of the time. Thanks for all the help.
