Replace Slip yoke

I have a 04 screw with the well known driveline slap.
Can I replace only the slip yoke or do I have to repace the hole drive shaft?
Thanks

Try lubing it first, before going through the expense of replacing

Thanks Mike35

Been there done that several times.
After several ford dealers and greaseing ,Ford said that it was normal.
So I will fix it my self.
After 30 years of ford trucks this might be the last one.

Chevy's have had driveline slap and axle wrap for years, the Titan also has these problems.

btw...the next time your dealer says "it's normal" ask him to take a new one for a test drive. If it doesn't slap...you then have an issue they should solve. Re-setting the rear end lash solved it on mine.

The only cure I know of for axle wrap is traction bars.

I had a thumping when taking off from time to time. The dealer told me the slip yoke was wearing, at 4K or so. They ended up replacing the rear shaft.

They lubed mine and it is better, but it still thumps from time to time. When I took it in to be checked out they told me that they needed to order a new slip yoke. I came back to get the new yoke installed and left my truck. Went back later to pick it up and they told me that all they needed to do was lube it. They know there is a problem, but I don't believe they have an accurate fix. I've still got 2 years and 20 miles on the warranty. I think I'll wait to see if they develop a true fix. Mine probably makes more noise then I realize, listening to the stereo probably covers it up!

i had a new driveshaft made for my 04 fx4 because there was a lot of "play" in my u-joints. it sucks you have to replace the whole driveshaft, but at least now i have a stronger driveshaft with 1 ton spicer u-joints that are replaceable . . . thicker wall tubing and welded yokes, instead of the spin-welded yokes on the factory shaft.

It is NOT normal. Don't fix it yourself if it is still under warranty. They know there is a problem , in fact in another forum there is reference to the nickle coating on the spline shaft that is the culprit. Greasing is a temp fix and lasts only a month or so. The fix IS - replace the entire driveshaft assembly. You may have to go back screaming 4 or 5 times and let them grease the sucker but in my case ofter letting them grease it 4 times I finally said "look, it is wrong from the start and I want it fixed as my warranty expires soon". I said that I would bet it can be fixed if I was paying for it. The dealer contacted Ford and had a new driveshaft installed the next day. They said that the shaft was flaking off rust anyways. Whether this was a contributing factor in their decision, I can't say for sure. Never a problem with it again. Smooth as silk on acceleration from a stop. The list on that part was over $600 CAD
