Question on instrument panel replacement.
Question on instrument panel replacement.
I am wanting to replace my instrument panel in my pickup. I want to go with a larger display. I looked at dakota digital already and will be getting a 2000 F250 super duty.
I talked to the service guy at ford today and he said that the instrument panel was painted on. How do people change their backround to white?
Does anyone now of any other companies that make a digital display or a replacement paper display?
Thanks

It is pretty simple. Take the cluster out and then apart, take off the needles and peel off the old overlay then stick on the new one. Your service guy is wrong, it is a sticker, not painted on.

Bigger display is not the same as a guage overlay kit. There are some wicked cool kits on ebay that you could get and do yourself in an afternoon, but those are for stock displays. I you want larger displays, AND white, you need to check with the vendor providing the display to see if they have it avaible in different colors, most of them do.
How do the needles come off? I have never had the guage cluster out of my truck. I think I could get it out? Is their one wire that plugs into the gluster or is their a bounch of wires? Do the needles pop off or is their a keeper ring or screw?
thanks for all your help.

The face kits come with a tool to remove the needles. They basically pull straight off.
If you are handy around mechanical things you can get it out pretty easily. You pull off the outer trim piece (may need to remove the radio and 2 screws hidden there), then pull the trim off and unplug the light, 4wd wires etc. Take out 4 screws around the cluster, slip the automatic trans indicator out, take out the cluster, unplug the wires.
Never had mine all the way out but I believe there are one or only a couple plugs that just snap into the back of the cluster.
