if i plan on changing to a mustang 2 front end on a 51 f1 does that mean the 9" rear end should come from a car for the bolt patterns to match up, or will a f100 rear bolt up?
that is correct. i'm using a rear end from a '70 mustang, so it'll match my volare front end. the f100 rear end may be easier to swap out, though. if you're not concerned with bolt patterns, i'd go that route.
good luck,

how hard was your mustang rear too install? was it a 9"? was it the right width? I will be installing a m11 front so I am worried about bolt patterns. ARe our trucks the same width? I have a 51
if you use the 57-72 F100 rearend, it is almost a bolt-in. I just found out that if you use the driver's side axle, backing plate, and drum from a 72-79 Torino, Ranchero,LTD II,or 77-79 T-bird or Cougar, they will swap into the truck housing. That will give you the car (4 1/2") bolt pattern.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Aug-02 AT 09:02 AM (EST)]thanks do you have to use 2 driver side axles for it to work or the driver and passenger sides? what are the widths of the f100 rears? n the rear in my truck now is 57" from backing plate to backing plate and 9" from backing to center of spring perch but is not the original rear for my 51 f1. my question is are these the right measurments or is the current rear way wrong the junk man says he has a 72 f100 with the rear in it and it's 54" and 7" respectfully
the m11 front runs 5 lugs but i dont know what the pattern is
You will need 2 driver's side axles. They are the same length as both truck axles. Be sure to get a passenger side backing plate so the emergency brake will fit right. I would measure outside to outside of the hubs. And also measure distance between the springs. This rearend should bolt in. You will need to rework the lower plate and u-bolts to accommodate the 3" axle housing.
will that match the 5 lug mII frontend, with that rear swap? and 1 more time a rear from 68-72 f100 is 61" from drum to drum where the wheels seat, then i could get the other axles to make the wheels match front to back? thanks for all the help, I am able to do the work but being on a tite budget I want to make sure I get the right parts the first time.
