ckcn10, the computer is what determines if a vehicle uses mass airflow load measurement or speed density calculations. You have to use a mass air computer to convert to mass air--adding a mass airflow sensor to a speed density computer won't do a thing. The answer is yes, you should get a mustang computer. A9P is the most common mass air computer for a non-computer controlled automatic, and A9L is most common mass air computer for manual transmissions.

foreman, have you tried pulling codes from the computer? If not, I would definitely start there.

I know that i would need a MAF computer, but would a mustang computer be better than a truck one?

I know this is kinda off topic...but just want to send a shout to the previous/current 1st Gen "Lightning" owners that have posted here. Also, I have heard in the past that the California "Lightning"'s were Mass Air but I have never seen one. Personally if your going to do any heavy mods on one of our trucks (F-150) I beleive you will get the best benefits out of the parts with Mass Air. Just my 2 cents.

Sam

For performance, I would use a mustang mass air computer over a truck mass air computer. The aftermarket support is also much better for the mustang computer, so that even if the tune isn't exactly what you need, you can tune the computer fairly easily.
