How hard is it to install the upgraded headlight harness on an 05 F250 XLT? I have seen this harness for sale that puts 12v to the light by using a new wiring harness with relays. I would assume this is a safe upgrade? Does the new harness go in front of the radiator? Any help would be nice before I start this upgrade.
Thanks
Carl
Most of the time headlight relay upgrades are plug and play. If you have the aerodynamic headlights and 9008 bulbs, the reverse harness maynot be available you might have to splice 3 wires.
The upgraded harness is easy to install. I'd recommend you get the one from Jerry at www.gosracing.com. That along with some Sylvania Xtravisions in place of stock bulbs made a huge difference in the headlight output.
I got mine from dfuser and just put it in last night. Installation was easy... and the difference is amazing!! Shoulda done it a lot sooner.
IIRC our trucks come with Xtravisions stock...
The trucks I've played with ('05 F250, '06 F150) did not have Xtravisions in them from the factory. Just standard bulbs. Expect about 15-20% more from the Xtra's. Good to hear that people are liking the upgraded harness systems.
The kits, specifically the GOS kit http://www.gosracing.com/inc/sdetail/2267, does not require hacking up the original harness. you can see the male adaptor for one of the old sockets in the pic.
I see... I could have sworn mine came with/has the Xtravisions.
Don't waste your money on 'blue' or 'whiter' bulbs... absolute crap!
I even bought the LUKS bulbs and they are noticable dimmer in light output... they just look brighter to oncoming traffic.
It would be interesting to know for sure. Maybe some do? The Xtra's have 'H13 XV' written in purple on the bulb's base. Let me know if you get curious enough to take a look.
I agree wholeheartedly, blue bulbs are crap. Even Silverstars. Why would you want to filter out the color (yellow) that's closer to most obstacles you encounter? The deer around here are a lot closer to being yellow than blue.
Just for S&G I got one from LMC for $30 when I ordered a bunch of stuff for my Lightning. I made a diagram of the harness and can post it after work if I remember.
I think your waisting your money on a new harness. The stock one is fine for any of the bulbs you can get. Xtravision, Siverstar, Nighthawk or stock, they all use the same wattage.
Have you ever tried using one? They make a pretty big difference. It's not that the bulbs you mentioned will fry the original or anything like that, you get more voltage to the bulbs than the original can provide (even when new) and they put out more light. It even makes a difference on the OE bulbs.
The original may be fine, but it isn't optimal. You will also potentially extend the life of your MFS.
