88 300 six timing question

Can anyone tell me the proper way to check the ignition timing on an 88 F150 300 six with EFI and a manual tranny? I'm familiar with checking it on older non-computer engines, but I don't know if the procedure is basically the same on my 88 (something about the SPOUT connector I've heard). Thanks for the advice.

Hi, some where in the wire harness close to the distributor ( usually hanging loose by itself) is a small gray plug and socket , like a regular wire connector but it doesn't go anywhere, Looks like a jumper. That is the spout (spark out) connector, just pull the plug from the socket and time your engine____DON'T FORGET TO PUT IT BACK. The timing mark is a thin pencil like line on the damper, not the large NOTCH in the damper. The timing marks are on the passengers side on a plate bolted to the timing cover, don't use the cast in marks on the timing cover. The timing plate is very hard (depending on the year and what accessories are on the engine) to see and is better seen from underneath the truck. The large V notch in the plate is 10 degrees and is the correct timing for the EFI engine.

Does advancing the timing give a little more power?
