I have coolant dripping below the glove box. Every thing looks fine from the engine compartment. Can you help me? F250 '93 7.3diesel. Thanks
98% leaking Heater core. 2% Hose issues.
HOSE problem: Could be loose/cracked hose going in/out of heater core if hose/core connection point is inside firewall and not accessable from engine compartment. I have seen this happen 2 times.
HEATER CORE problem: When you turn on the windshield defroster - probably has a sweet smell and clouds up the glass even worse than before. When it gets really bad your front passenger side floorboard will be soaked. You will probably have a slimy film of coolant on the inside of the windshield now. I have seen this happen many times.
I have never replaced one on that specific model before. Save tons of $$$ doing it yourself with a Haynes Manual for $20 & a new heater core for under $30.
Sometimes have to release the pressure in the A/C system (like in the early '80s Ford cars) which will cost more money to fill it again. If you must do this, go to a shop and have them perform an 'E-VAC' (a/c system refrigerant evacuation procedure). They will hook the machine to your a/c system and basically suck out all your freon. Then after your work is complete go to the same shop to fill it - they should give you a discount (if the shop originally sucked out 2.5 lbs and then gave you 3 lbs back, because your system was a little low in the first place, you should only be charged for the 0.5 lbs of freon).
