[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Aug-02 AT 09:34 PM (EST)]First off, I'd like to thank everyone that has helped me with my steering box dilema!!
Now then, here's the scoop:
I pulled the box and shaft out of my '51 F1 to take with me for comparison before I went on my road trip to pick up the replacement.
That's when I realized that I had found another "*******ization."
What I took out is ALOT larger than stock!
The "tube" is 1.75" diameter vs. 1.5"
The box was mounted on top of the frame rail with a leg droping off and attatched on the outside of the rail.
There is a number cast into the box: 270280?4
Any ideas what in the %&#@*+%$ I had?
Hell, I'm not even sure it's a Ford part. But, I'll tell you this, it's a big 'un! (now I see why it was such a bear to wrestle out of there!)
I do not know if it helps, but if you are looking for an original steering box, I have one off of a 52 F-1 that is in good shape. All bearings, races, and runs were replaced. I replaced the front end with a Mustang II IFS system. If you want the box, make me an offer. It has a good column, and I also have the steering wheel if you are interested. I do have the entire hub to hub I-beam set-up if you need any of that.

I'm finally back on the road. I think my wife may be happier than me. I'm sure I've been a bit grumpy with her being on jackstands for 10 days. (the truck, not the wife)
rdodge, do you still have that sterring wheel? im interested to know what condition and how much you want for it?? you can email me with your answer...
